My Korean school lunch: chicken sesame soup (닭고기깻국탕), sticky black rice (흑미찹쌀밥), mapo tofu (마파두부), stir-fried fish cake with soy sauce (간장어묵채볶음), cabbage kimchi (배추김치), and cherry tomato (방울토마토).

This amazingly delicious Korean school lunch has such a great combination of flavors. I had this lunch at an elementary school in Busan, South Korea and it was love at first bite. 

Chicken sesame soup
  • English: Chicken sesame soup
    Korean: 닭고기깻국탕
    Romanized: Dalkgogi-getguktang
    • Basic ingredients: chicken, radish, shiitake mushroom, sesame seeds, egg, onion, and cucumber chili. 
    • Seasoning: soy sauce, sesame oil, and salt.

Sticky black rice
  • English: Sticky black rice
    Korean: 흑미찹쌀밥
    Romanized: Heukmi-chapssalbap

Mapa tofu
  • English: Mapo tofu
    Korean: 마파두부
    Romanized: Mapa-dubu
  • Basic ingredients: tofu, minced pork, and onion.
  • Seasoning: chili powder, soybean paste, red chili paste, garlic, soy sauce, water, starch, and sesame oil.

Stir-fried fish cake with soy sauce
  • English: Stir-fried fish cake with soy sauce
    Korean: 간장어묵채볶음
    Romanized: Ganjang-eomukchae-bokkeum
  • Basic ingredients: pepper, fish cake, cucumber chili, soy sauce, sugar, water, garlic, and onion. 

Cabbage kimchi
  • English: Cabbage kimchi
    Korean: 배추김치
    Romanized: Baechu-kimchi
  • Basic ingredients: napa cabbage, chives, green onion, radish, and salt.
  • Seasoning: anchovy fish sauce, shrimp, chili powder, sugar, garlic, and plum extract.

Cherry tomato
  • English: Cherry tomato
    Korean: 방울토마토
    Romanized: Bangul-tomato
